  intersting thought. however, not clear what such an ecosystem will be based on. Amazon and google sell variety of services; banks deal with money. what else?

  actually, it is really interesting if you think about it. There are two very general tendencies always at play: bundling and differentiation. If the palyers are too specialized, bundling them can improve services and reduce costs. On the other hand, after bunding, some parts of the bundle develop faster than others, and it becomes sensible to spin off less relevant/profitable parts -- specialization. And so it goes, back and forth.

  it looks like for banks to survive, they need to deal not only in assets, money, and credit, but also in attention economy or physical goods or entertainment or else....
